Union City Party

JOIN US FOR HAPPY HOUR AND RAISE A GLASS TO THE RIDERS

Cyclists from around the country are about to converge here for the Union City Criterium, the fastest race of Speed Week. (Speed Week is an important annual Southeastern cycling event for competitive riders. For the rest of us, it’s an excuse to have a good time while witnessing impressive feats of athleticism from the comfort of our folding chairs.) To mark the occasion, fans and families are invited to cheer for the cyclists whipping by while enjoying a free neighborhood street party and food trucks for the whole family.

Join us at this FREE event in downtown Union City. Don’t forget your dance shoes, and Disco attire is recommended, but not required.

Kids races!

Time for the kids to get in on the action. Just before the pro women head to the line, we’ll kick off the evening’s races with two show-stopping events for the next generation of speed demons: 1) kids with experience on two wheels and 2) those just starting out—trikes, training wheels, balance bikes, etc. It’s all for fun, but don’t underestimate the pull of pride and participation ribbons.

Schedule: 5:15 Rider (parent) meeting, in which we get things organized; 5:50 Rider call ups, in which we round up the children.

Don’t forget the helmets!

Race 1: One-Lap Blast: Children who are confident on their two-wheeled steeds will complete one lap of the approximately 1/2 mile course.

Race 2: Straightaway Sprint: Tykes with trikes, training wheels, and balance bikes line up for a mad dash from one loving guardian on the starting line to the other on the finish line. (Yes, this event requires two adults per kiddo.) The more competitors on the track, the faster the kids tend to push as the race heats up.
